That's weird |
This book consists of twelve cases in which a person was forced to kill in self-defense. The work shows some need of an editor; someone to tighten up the text and improve sentence structure. An editor might also restrain the author from adding "Justice Rendered!" from the end of each chapter. The comment seems unnecessarily pedantic and triumphant. Such an editor should also remove the exclamation mark from the author's keyboard. The author's material speaks for itself and does not require the repeated use of the exclamatory. It is the author's material which will interest the reader. The author has selected cases in which the citizen was forced to kill an assailant. This is a very small minority of self-defense cases, perhaps one in ten thousand. Of more interest, in each case the citizen was at a serious disadvantage at the beginning of each incident, the criminal had already aimed his weapon or had actually fired before the citizen began to respond. These incidents give the lie to claims that self-defense is impossible because the initiative lies with the attacker. The author has reviewed police reports and interviewed the principles in order to provide a background to each self-defense incident. A variety of crime survivors are introduced, abused women, businessmen, homeowners, even children. The existence of this book will aid in the author's intention to support the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. As an attorney working with self-defense cases, I would like to know more about the legal aftermath of these cases. The author hints at legal complications in several cases, but does not discuss what the citizen did right or wrong tactically or legally and the effect of these acts or omissions on criminal or civil charges. The author is working on Justice Rendered 2001 and asks for stories from crime survivors. Payment is offered for accounts of self-defense. Incidents may be sent to his web site at www.justicerendered.com. This site also provides a sample from the book. The work is a valuable addition to the literature on self-defense. I anxiously await an improved Justice Rendered 2001. |
